Arkansas Appleseed’s mission is to make Arkansas a better place to live and work. Through research, legal action, and policy change, we protect freedom, opportunity, and justice in Arkansas.
Our policy initiatives:
Arkansas Cares
We’re forging new public-private partnerships and coalitions of organizations to address Arkansas’s care crisis - from maternal and infant health to access to care, more generally.
Arkansas Votes
We’re pushing for pro-democracy reforms to ensure every eligible Arkansan has access to the ballot - policies to empower voters with disabilities, rural voters, and voters who face language barriers.
Arkansas Advances
We’re advocating for state and local policy that strengthens Arkansas schools and ensures every child in our state is presented with opportunity. We’re also working on policy that empowers rural small businesses, as well as women and minority business owners.
We are a proud affiliate of the Appleseed Network, a group of 19 nonprofit centers across the United States and Mexico working together to strengthen democracy and address pressing challenges like poverty and discrimination.
The Appleseed Network is a result of the Harvard Law School Class of 1958’s vision “to plant a seed” of nonprofit law centers for public service.
Recently, Appleseed Centers in other states have achieved big wins. Our colleagues inspire us as they provide a model for what policy advocacy can look like here in Arkansas. Nebraska Appleseed is celebrating a successful campaign to require Paid Sick Leave for Nebraska workers. Oklahoma Appleseed is celebrating critical criminal justice system reforms. Kansas Appleseed is tacking food insecurity, and Missouri Appleseed is celebrating a ground-breaking Medicaid Enrollment policy.
